Self Evacuated Neutron Guide

Free standing, self evacuated neutron guides. Most of the glass neutron guides have an external steel vacuum housing, because it is very hazardous to keep the air pressure by the glass itself. But the free standing guides, without steel housings, would have advantages like: cost saving, good access for alignment and less space consumption. Lead shielding can be packed closer to the guide.

So we developed our freestanding metallic neutronguides. They can be pumped directly, you don't need an extra Vacuum Housing. And we manufacture it from Aluminium and borated Aluminium.

The sealing is done in the same way as for glass guides: with a vacuum- and radiation-hard glue.

Our free standing neutron guide is perfectly suited where space is limited.
